In recent years, many countries in Asia have taken important steps towards more democratic systems. However, governance reforms are unlikely to succeed without strong institutions to support them.
The Parliamentary Centre’s Asia Program has had a strong focus on institutional strengthening and technical support to parliamentarians and parliamentary staff in areas such as legislative drafting, research and analysis, public consultations, parliamentary organization, research and support services, human resource management in parliament, budgetary oversight and accountability.
The Centre’s experience in Asia is as multi-faceted as the region itself and covers countries and legislatures dealing with a broad range of reform agendas and challenges. We have provided assistance to, among others, the National People’s Congress, provincial and municipal legislatures in China; the National Assembly, Senate and provincial assemblies in Pakistan; the two houses of the Parliament of Cambodia; and the National Assembly of Vietnam.
